First, let's briefly define affirmations and why they are so popular in the world of personal development.
Many people recite daily affirmations – or positive phrases – because they know that what they say to themselves over and over again makes a difference in how they think and act.
For the most part, this is true because words of affirmation can “infiltrate” our minds if we practice them enough. So, by consistently reciting affirmations of faith, spiritual affirmations, self esteem affirmations, motivational affirmations or other personal affirmations, we are making subtle changes to how we speak to ourselves and this is important.
Because with every single word or phrase you “utter” to yourself, whether is it a positive affirmation or a negative affirmation, or is conscious or unconscious, you are “affirming” to yourself a certain truth or belief. The more you repeat these positive or negative words of affirmation in your “self talk,” the stronger that belief becomes.
Within the personal development industry today, much attention has been brought to the effectiveness of doing daily positive affirmations. In fact, with the release of the movie, The Secret, in 2006, doing self affirmations and daily positive affirmations became “all the rage.”
This was great news for us as a society, but there was one key factor “left out” of the “rage” and that is that you must be able to tap into your emotional intelligence and “feelings” in order to manifest your desires through your daily affirmations or other personal affirmations.
Which brings us to the subject of this article, which is using your emotional intelligence to improve your “words” of affirmation and turn them into “feelings” of affirmation.
And just so we're on the same page, in order for your daily positive affirmations to work, you must be able to feel them on a certain emotional level. This is where your emotional intelligence comes into play because it is how your brain communicates between your “rational” brain and your “emotional” brain.
So, when doing your self affirmations for anything in your life, whether you're doing affirmations of faith, spiritual affirmations, self esteem affirmations, self love affirmations, affirmations for abundance and prosperity, weight loss affirmations, or other personal affirmations, you want to be able to “feel the feeling of having these affirmations already coming true...”
And the way you do that is to tap into your emotional intelligence so you can “logically guide” your emotional mind into the right place so you feel the appropriate emotion.
In other words, as the “hippies of the 60s” would say, “you've got to get in touch with your feelings.”
Today's transition of that phrase would be, “Learn how to improve your emotional intelligence” and you're set for success on all levels of life.
So, what is emotional intelligence? While the emotional intelligence theory is rather complicated, it can be boiled down to your rational brain identifying and controlling your emotional brain.
To learn how to improve emotional intelligence and apply it to your daily positive affirmations, all you need to do is simple keep asking yourself, “How does this feel” when you are thinking about a certain subject...
Just keep asking, “How does this feel?”
Ask it again and again until you start building the neural pathways between your rational brain and your emotional brain.
Because this is the secret to learning how to improve emotional intelligence...
You've got to build the “infrastructure or highway” within your brain that communicates between the rational part of your mind and the emotional part of your mind.
Once this infrastructure is in place, you can more easily feel all of your daily positive affirmations...
You can feel the trust from your affirmations of faith or spiritual affirmations...
You can feel motivated from doing your motivational affirmations...
You can feel wealthy from your affirmations for abundance and prosperity.
See the connection? All you have to do is to teach your mind to communicate “within itself” in a new way so you can feel your feelings in a stronger fashion.
When embarking on practicing your daily affirmations, if you want them to be effective, you'll want to learn how to improve your emotional intelligence so you can become more aware of your feelings, which is the key ingredient to making all of your “words” of affirmation turn into “feelings” of affirmation.
