In the study of the Law of Attraction, there is a well-known “ladder” that ranks emotions from “unfavorable” ones such as fear, in incremental steps up the ladder to emotions are that considered “favorable” such as love.
Here's the emotional scale so you can see that within this philosophy there are 22 levels of emotions:
As you can see, appreciation (or gratitude) is at the top of the scale at number 1 and depression is at the bottom of the ladder at 22, so there are a lot of emotions you can and should feel as you work your way up the ladder while changing your "set point emotional level" to joy, gratitude and love for the bulk of your time.
According to this scale, guilt is right above depression, for example. So, if you can maintain an attitude of gratitude long enough (which is maintaining a higher frequency level in your body), it could gently move you from depression “up” into guilt, which is good.
However, most people don't see this as good news because they want to feel love and passion right away.
But moving from depression into guilt, as you can see on this scale, is a positive move up the ladder toward love and passion and it is a gentle shift in your physical and mental vibration...
Which is exactly how you want to do to move up the emotional scale...
Sometimes, however, we can bounce around the scale and this, too, is natural. So, if you're feeling elated one day and depressed the next, don't worry, it's natural to feel all sorts of emotions as you are shifting things around and changing your emotional set point over time.
If you start out in depression, though, by maintaining a positive attitude long enough, you'll soon move into anger, discouragement and blame, and when this happens, you should applaud yourself because you are definitely making progress...
Even though you're probably really anger about everything at the time!
So, how do you develop an attitude of gratitude and keep it going long enough so you can get through the rough road that this ladder provides?
One way is to find some nice gratitude quotes that really inspire the feeling of gratitude inside of you and jot them down on small slips of paper to keep handy.
Good places to keep these quotes of gratitude would be on your refrigerator where you can be thankful for the food it contains or near your desk where you can be thankful you have an income.
Having a gratitude poster somewhere around your bed is one of my favorites because it reminds you each morning to be grateful...
And having a gratitude poem or other quotes about gratitude in your bathroom works well because we all spend a lot of time in bathrooms brushing teeth and showering, etc., and these activities are very good activities that work our brains in certain ways to receive new thoughts.

In fact, if you really want to train your brain to accept quotes about gratitude, hang up a gratitude poster or gratitude prayer on your bathroom mirror, and brush your teeth with your non-dominant hand while reading the poster or prayer.
Now, I know this sounds like I'm asking you to rub your tummy while patting your head, but by simply changing which hand you brush your teeth with, you are using your brain in a completely new fashion.
And by using your brain in this new fashion while “inputting” your gratitude prayer or gratitude quotes from your gratitude poster, you are “re-wiring” your brain.
Try it... it's fun!
If you already do meditation, I suggest that you shift your focus from “no thoughts” to only thoughts of gratitude so your attitude of gratitude resonates out from you while you are meditating.
If you don't already meditate, a great way to start is to use something called a brainwave meditation that instantly puts your mind into a meditation state so your thoughts, affirmations or quotes about gratitude get absorbed easier. I love this technology and have developed some brainwave meditations of my own that you can use to shift your brain into a more receptive mode. Click here to check out these brainwave meditations...
A really great tool to use is something called a “gratitude rock” or “gratitude stone,” which is simply a rock or stone that you carry with you that reminds you to think of things that you are grateful about when you see it...
You can also use this as a physical anchor where you train yourself to associate the gratitude rock with feelings of appreciation and gratitude.
One way to do this is to hold the gratitude rock during your meditation time so your body associates the rock with the feelings that you are manifesting during your gratitude meditation.
Then, when you find the rock during times of the day outside of your meditation time, you're more likely to feel the feelings of gratitude and appreciation much quicker because your body is trained to do so...
It's kind of like Pavlov's dogs that he trained to salivate when they heard the bell...
Your body is “salivating gratitude” when it sees the rock.

Once you have trained your body and mind to recognize that your time of gratitude meditation, gratitude quotes or a gratitude rock or gratitude prayer are giving you an attitude of gratitude, it becomes easier and easier to move through the ranks up the emotional scale.
The benefits of gratitude are as simple as helping you stay calm through transitions and thankful that you are making progress...
To feeling of euphoria because you are attracting more of the good things in life because you are grateful for what you already have in your life.

Learning how to develop gratitude using tools such as gratitude quotes or a gratitude rock or gratitude meditation can help keep you focused on what's important as you move up the emotional scale through some emotions which may feel uncomfortable.
Being grateful for these “uncomfortable” emotions (rather than letting them plummet you further down the ladder) helps keep you moving up the scale as well as happier as you make progress.
So, as funny as it sounds now, if you're depressed and become jealous and/or angry, rejoice because you're making progress!
