First, let's start out with one of the easiest ways to learn how to develop gratitude, which is to have a consistent flow of gratitude quotes around you that are being inputted into your “psyche.” To do this, choose your favorite quotes on gratitude from the list below and make them into either a large gratitude poster with all of your favorites on it, or... Make up several smaller postcard-size cards to hang up in your environment so your subconscious mind is consistently seeing quotes about gratitude. This is an easy way to “get the ball rolling” and to start reprogramming your mind to focus on having an attitude of gratitude.
Here are some quotes about gratitude to get you started: ![]() *

Once you make up the above gratitude quotes into a lovely gratitude poster, a really great place to hang it is around your bed so you see it when you first wake up. Why? Because your subconscious is “most vulnerable” to suggestion when you first wake up or as you go to sleep at night... And this makes for a fabulous time to do a short gratitude meditation that simply allows your mind to focus upon the gratitude quotes and see what new thoughts and feelings come up for you. Another way to practice gratitude when you first wake up is to do morning affirmations a certain way, which I've explained in my "Writing Positive Affirmations" article. Go ahead and click here to visit that article so see those suggestions, and I'll be waiting here for your return. So, for the first part of our gratitude lessons here, remember to keep gratitude quotes around the places where you spend the most time, but particularly around your bed and READ them when you first wake up and/or as you go to sleep at night.... And start developing an attitude of gratitude by focusing on life's simple things as I suggested in my "Writing Positive Affirmations" article I mentioned above.
One gratitude prayer that I think really “gets to the heart of the matter” is from Buddha because its practicality and simplicity are “spot on” when you are truly developing gratitude, and transcends any religious affiliations: ![]()
Using something called a gratitude rock or other “physical object” to instill the memory of gratitude within your body helps enormously. In the movie, The Secret, one man told the story of how a gratitude rock changed his son's health as well and going on and selling gratitude rocks to others. Since I've already written an article about using gratitude rocks entitled, "Gratitude Rock: Why Make it Your New Pet Rock?" go ahead and click here to go there now and then come back when you're done. I'll be waiting...
Although using gratitude quotes gets you started, there's more to maintaining an attitude of gratitude when life throws you a curve ball. When this happens, one of my favorite ways of changing my vibration instantly to resonate with gratitude is to make up a gratitude list. You can do this at any time and anywhere with anything because it doesn't require sitting down and writing an actual gratitude list on a piece of paper. You can do it in your head when you get angry with someone... When you get disappointed and especially... When you feel poor! For example, when you're angry with someone, just stop “the angry train dead in its tracks” and take a deep breath to calm down. Then, even though it's the LAST thing you want to do, start developing an attitude of gratitude about that person by reciting everything that you are grateful for about that person. If you can't think of anything about that person to be grateful for, then use your gratitude rock or some other anchor that you've trained your body to associate with gratitude and start reciting anything you are grateful for in your life. The same goes when you're disappointed and especially when you're feeling poor. Be thankful for the food you have in your refrigerator and the clothes you have on your back. While this may sound too simplistic, it's how to develop gratitude about the things that are keeping you alive... Which is what really matters and is often forgotten when we're so focused on the material aspects of this world.
When you're looking for gratitude training, all you really need to do is to stop whatever you're doing at the time and become grateful for anything in your life already because the power of gratitude can instantly change your mood and outlook. Using tools like gratitude quotes, gratitude rocks or practicing some form of gratitude meditation or gratitude prayer help you “stay on top” of having an attitude of gratitude. Once you do this long enough, you've changed your chemistry in your mind and body to help keep you staying positive and grateful. For more about how this works, please see my "Benefits of Positive Thinking" article that talks about this phenomenon of how your body helps you stay positive. Once your body knows the “frequency of gratitude” by practicing these suggestions, you'll be able to maintain a “radio signal” of gratitude easily and effortlessly.
