When learning how to develop gratitude, it's important that you practice a grateful attitude consistently as I've just mentioned above so it can change your physical vibration to steadily resonating gratitude. While having a gratitude rock or gratitude stone or gratitude “lucky charm” is one of the easiest ways to maintain a grateful attitude long enough to make changes, there are other ways that you can include with your new “pet rock” of gratitude... One of these other ways of developing a positive attitude and maintaining gratefulness is simply to stop yourself when you're getting upset and ask yourself, “What am I grateful for in this situation?” This can be a very powerful exercise of staying in the “moment of distress” physically, yet ushering yourself mentally and emotionally into another place where you can flip your thinking and find things that are positive about a “not-so-good” situation... And all the while if you are also holding onto your “pet rock” in your pocket or see it on your desk or dresser, you can feel like it's giving you "additional support" to do this task.
Having a list of gratitude quotes or a favorite gratitude poem handy by your “pet rock” is another way of helping you shift your awareness to a more grateful existence. Here are some quotes of gratitude that I've found useful: "Gratitude
is the sign of noble souls."
~ Aesop * "I am full of gratitude for my life - and for this house." ~ Julian Clary * "Gratitude is the best attitude." ~ Author Unknown * I give more quotes of gratitude in my Quotes of Gratitude article. If you found a favorite gratitude quote and a large enough gratitude rock, you could print out the quote or gratitude poem and put it on your rock or stone.
Or, you could make your own postcards or small posters to put gratitude quotes or a favorite gratitude poem up around you on your walls, especially around your bed so when you wake up in the morning, the first thing you see are reminders to stay grateful as you start your day. In fact, right after you wake up is a great time to practice morning affirmations. I've found these daily affirmations can really motivate me to get up and appreciate living the best life I can during that day. I've written an article about writing positive affirmations and how to use morning affirmations of gratitude to start that ball rolling. Here's the link to the Writing Positive Affirmations article, which gives you more insight about how to develop gratefulness in the morning. A gratitude rock is a very useful device to hold onto while doing a gratitude meditation because it physically “links” your body to your mental state of mind and teaches your mind and body this habit so it can link the feeling more readily throughout the rest of your day when you find your “pet rock” and are prompted to recite a gratitude poem or other quotes of gratitude.
So, why should a gratitude rock become your new “pet rock?” If you haven't been convinced by all the suggestions that I mentioned earlier in this article, such as anchoring the feeling of gratitude into your body or attaching quotes to it to recite consistently so you can make changes occur... Then the best reason to make a gratitude rock your new “pet rock” is simply so you have “someone” to talk to when you're feeling depressed and/or lonely... You can paint a puppy dog or kitty cat face on it and keep it with you as a friend... But I suggest keeping your conversations with it to yourself because they can be rather shy to converse with you when others are around!
