Making
a career change after 50 is easier when you take time to ask these
pertinent questions to find what you want.
Having
a desire for a career change at middle age is normal.
However,
actually making a career change midlife can seem impossible or
unthinkable at times.
You
want more freedom and more money, yet every time you look around,
you're frustrated.
With the emphasis
today on degrees, many “baby boomers” find it
necessary to go back to school and spend years of their lives just
trying to fit on with the younger generation who hold
“sheepskins...”
All the while
getting older in the process.
Do you feel it's going
to be twice as hard to make your career change after 50?
Are
you asking who would be in his/her right mind to do something as bold
as changing careers after doing something for most of your life?
Relax,
you can believe that there are many people who still “risk it
all” and make that big "after 50 career change."

Questions
First
of all, let's get some pen and paper out and ask yourself some
questions.
The best way to
“answer” these
questions is to put the question at the top of a blank piece of paper,
and then journal your thoughts about that question.
Let
your mind run free with whatever comes up.
After
you're satisfied with your answer, move onto the next question.
Have
you
been doing the things that really make you happy?
Are
you
satisfied with your life right now?
Are
there things in your
life right now that you want to change if only you were given a chance?
Do you
know your strengths?
What do you think are your
abilities that will aid you in creating a new career path?
Do
you have a reliable professional network? If not, why? What impact
would a network have on
your quest towards going to a new career path?
Do
you have
the financial resources to make a change? Are you willing to attend
career seminars, personal and
professional career development counseling or career fairs?
Lastly,
what do you really want to do with your life? How would you like the
rest of
your life to be?
STEP TWO
Make
a list of what you want from your new career and pick the top
five things that are important to you. As to these five top
values, ask yourself:
Can you get these from another
job, or are you ready to leave the
employed life and start your own business?
Are you
working for self-expression or self-fulfillment or still looking to
just punch a different clock?
Do
you want to help others?
Are you at your happiest
when you are working alone or connected with people?
Are
you working for money or fame?
Do you want to work
part time and earn a six figure income?
Keep
asking yourself questions to "hone in" on what's really driving you to
find a career with these five values. Whenever you get stuck,
just ask "Why?" and let your thoughts run free.
STEP
THREE
Next, make a list of some of the
career
options that you'd like to pursue. Take note of everything.
Notice
if you're writing, “I can’t” and
“I don’t have.” Get rid of
those words. Let yourself dream instead of setting limitations...
After
all this is a positive thinking site and we do a lot of attraction work
here. What's attraction? It's where you set your
mind on something and because you're focused on it, you
“attract” it into your life.
Maybe
you're even ready for a Law of Attraction business where you combine
your personal development with your career and travel?
